Beginning in 2002 as a country programme, in 2010 ICRAF China transitioned to a full regional office in order to better respond to emerging issues, stakeholder demands and a changing donor landscape. In addition to the main office in Kunming, the East and Central Asia(ECA) programme now has a liaison office in Beijing and a Central Asian office in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We work around six research themes: making agroforestry systems more productive; creating markets for agroforestry products; selecting the best genetic tree material; reversing land degradation with trees; environmental services provided by trees; and climate change mitigation and adaptation with trees.

You, Jianling; Qin, Xiaoping; Ranjitkar, Sailesh; Lougheed, Stephen C; Wang, Mingcheng; Zhou, Wen; Ouyang, Dongxin; Zhou, Yin; Xu, Jianchu; Zhang, Wenju; Wang, Yuguo; Yang, Ji; Song, Zhiping, 2018, "Replication Data for: Response to climate change of montane herbaceous plants in the genus Rhodiola predicted by ecological niche modelling", https://doi.org/10.34725/DVN/CTV9KA, World Agroforestry - Research Data Repository, V1
Climate change profoundly infuences species distributions. These efects are evident in poleward latitudinal range shifts for many taxa, and upward altitudinal range shifts for alpine species, that resulted from increased annual global temperatures since the Last Glacial Maximum (...

Yang, Xueqing; Blagodatsky, Sergey; Liu, Feng; Beckschäfer, Philip; Xu, Jianchu; Cadisch, Georg, 2018, "Replication Data for: Rubber tree allometry, biomass partitioning and carbon stocks in mountainous landscapes of sub-tropical China", https://doi.org/10.34725/DVN/5RNWFS, World Agroforestry - Research Data Repository, V2, UNF:6:ngLFATW71KPz5Sp2kO5IaQ== [fileUNF]
Expansion of rubber plantations into sub-optimal environments has been a dominating land conversion in continental South-East Asia in the last decade. Regional evaluation of the carbon sequestration potential of rubber trees depends largely on the selection of suitable allometric...

Lang, Rong; Blagodatsky, Sergey; Xu, Jianchu; Cadisch, Georg, 2018, "Replication Data for: Seasonal differences in soil respiration and methane uptake in rubber plantation and rainforest", https://doi.org/10.34725/DVN/MP3UBK, World Agroforestry - Research Data Repository, V2, UNF:6:W6UZnBhOzYfAb8mr1zB3sQ== [fileUNF]
Soil respiration rates were measured in a rainforest plot and three rubber plantation plots, as two times of CH4 flux measurements in rainy season, aimed to assess the land use change impact on greenhouse gases emission. Controlling factors of temporal variation of soil respirati...

Goldberg, Stefanie D; Zhao, Yongli; Harrison, Rhett D; Monkai, Jutamart; Li, Yuwu; Chau, Kating; Xu, Jianchu, 2018, "Replication Data for: Soil respiration in sloping rubber plantations and tropical natural forests in Xishuangbanna, China", https://doi.org/10.34725/DVN/SQA0DU, World Agroforestry - Research Data Repository, V1, UNF:6:KYUrfRb7smCJ5e5HUnG22A== [fileUNF]
Soil respiration (SR) plays an important role in the global carbon cycle. The widespread and continued conversion of tropical forests to plantations is expected to drastically alter CO2 production in soil, with significant consequences for atmospheric concentrations of this cruci...

Kim, Kwangchol; Wang, Ming-cheng; Ranjitkar, Sailesh; Liu, Suhong; Xu, Jianchu; Zomer, Robert J, 2018, "Replication Data for: Using leaf area index (LAI) to assess vegetation response to drought in Yunnan province of China", https://doi.org/10.34725/DVN/XYOU4Q, World Agroforestry - Research Data Repository, V1
Climatic extremes such as drought have becoming a severe climate-related problem in many regions all over the world that can induce anomalies in vegetation condition. Growth and CO2 uptake by plants are constrained to a large extent by drought. Therefore, it is important to under...
